Adding a Barcode Scanner to your Point of Sale

Note! This guide is for connecting Barcode Scanners that are not Scanner Scale combinations. See the help article: Adding a Scanner Scale to your Point of Sale for information on setting up a scanner scale. Although other scanners may work we recommend the Zebra DS2278. This setup guide may not work for other devices.

  • Connect your scanner via the supplied USB-A cable to the point of sale system or expansion module.
Supplied USB-A data cable.
  • Connect the other end of the cable to the scanner or cradle.
  • On the point of sale system, select the menu in the bottom left hand corner. Navigate to Settings > Hardware.
  • Click on the dropdown option for “Hand Scanner” and select the USB Device that you just added

To verify you are adding the correct device you can unplug the USB device, it will then be removed from the dropdown options, then when you plug it in again it will be in the list again.

  • Make sure that the scanner is in the correct mode, typically the scanners will come with a programming guide where a barcode or QR code can be scanned to set the mode. The mode is typically called USB IBM or IBM USB mode. For most Zebra brand scanners the following barcode will put the scanner in IBM USB mode.

You should now be able to use your barcode scanner!
